How much water do they need to turn on?
Just enough to cover the base contacts — about an inch in a bowl or vase works fine. They float, so deeper water is fine too.
Can I use them outside in a fountain or pool?
Yes. They're built for water use and float upright on their own. Bring them in if heavy wind or freezing weather is coming.
What happens when I take them out of the water?

Will they stay upright, or do they tip over?
